The camera lover's guide to Far West Texas and the Texas Mountain Trail Region!

Preserving and Promoting Our Photographic History!

The Texas Mountain Trail is working with Shorpy.com and the Clark Hotel Museum in Van Horn to promote our Far West Texas heritage through photographs!

Several years ago, the museum's photograph collection was threatened in a devastating fire, and the museum had stretched and limited resources for collection care.  When the University of North Texas Libraries advertised a grant opportunity (with funding through the Summerlee Foundation of Dallas) to have photograph collections digitized through the Portal to Texas History, we wanted to participate.  Our request was successful, and by the end of 2006, Van Horn's photographs were online

The next stop was spreading the word.  Shorpy.com, an excellent historical photograph blog was eager to post the Museum's photographs, and even built a special "West Texas" page on their navigation menu for us!  As a result, many more people are exposed to our beautiful region and our history!  You can read more about this, here. (Page down to the June 2nd entry.)
