Hwy 54 run north of Van Horn
Hwy 54 North of Van Horn

Try these favorite runs!

DSCN2899WILD ROSE PASS (between Fort Davis and Balmorhea) - 4 mile run
A beautiful run through the mountains on an historic trade route!
Drive appoximately 10 miles north of Fort Davis on Hwy 17 towards Balmorhea, and park your car at the picnic area. From there, run two miles north to the top of the pass and stop to read the historical marker. Roundtrip 4 miles. This is a favorite run of the Davis Mountains Fitness and Training Camp, www.fitnesscamp.org

DSCN2516INDIAN HEAD ROAD
(Terlingua/Study Butte, near Big Bend National Park) - 5 mile run
Just north of the Big Bend Motor Inn on Hwy 118, there's a great five mile "out and back" run on Indian Head Road. This dirt road is clearly marked with a green road sign.

Hwy 54 Favorite Run near Van Horn on the Texas Mountain TrailHWY 54 (Just north of Van Horn, on the way to Guadalupe Mountains National Park) up to 5 miles
Drive 7.5 miles north of Van Horn on Hwy 54, and the road starts to curve to the west. Park the car here, and run due west until the road starts to curve north again. If you run to the bridge and back, you'll have done 5 mile run on one of the most scenic drives in the state. Though close to Van Horn, the road is seldom traveled, so you have solitude and quiet in an untouched part of Texas. (So unspoiled, there aren't even power lines along your route!) Aerial view of this run, from Google Earth, click here!

FORT DAVIS Trail Run (from Fort Davis State Park to Fort Davis National Historic Site)
From the trailhead at the park’s Interpretive Center (5010’), this 3-mile trail joins into a 1.5 mile trail leading into Fort Davis National Historic Site. The trail follows a craggy canyon before breaking out onto a rolling grassland (5510’) that roughly parallels scenic Skyline Drive. Hikers can enjoy bird’s eye views of Fort Davis and the surrounding Davis Mountains. Portions of this trail have been used by the Davis Mountains Fitness and Training Camp as a Trail Run.
